The championship fortunes of both the Bonita Vista Barons and Eastlake Titans have taken tumultuous turns through the season, with the teams tied for the Mesa League lead, Eastlake going up by a game on two occasions and the teams tied once again after the defending league co-champions split their highly anticipated two-game series match-up last week.

The Eastlake High School swim team cheered the loudest during the awards ceremony that capped last Friday's Mesa League championship meet at Mater Dei Catholic High School. The reason? The Titans engineered a stunning sweep of team titles in both the boys and girls meets.
The Otay Ranch High School boys volleyball team will have the home field advantage in this year's San Diego Section Division I playoffs after earning the No. 1 seed. The Mustangs (35-2) open defense of their division title ranked sixth in the nation.
Titans retake lead in Mesa League baseball race
The Metro Conference's set-up of two-game baseball series continues to conjure the unpredictable. Case in point: The Eastlake Titans bombarded Mater Dei Catholic, 8-0, on May 1; the Crusaders returned the favor two days later by recording an 8-5 upset victory.

The Otay Ranch High School boys volleyball team made what coach Tony Fajardo termed "a huge splash on the national scene" during last weekend's elite Redondo Varsity Classic in Redondo Beach.
