California District 42 Little League crowned its first of what could be many divisional champions this summer as the annual Tournament of Champions took center stage at the Imperial Beach Little League complex.

Up first at the plate was Tuesday’s Major Division championship game between the Eastlake Braves and Sweetwater Valley. The Braves won, 12-1, in a shortened four-inning game.

Eastlake Little League President Mark Robertson was among the dignitaries called up for the traditional post-game championship photo. He was complimentary of the performance by the Braves’ players and coaching staff.

“It’s a great accomplishment for the team,” Robertson said. “They have worked very hard since February when the team was put together through the draft.”

The Braves finished in second place during the regular season division standings, then defeated the first place Royals in the league playoffs to earn a berth in the district tournament.

The Braves shot out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning as Aiden Flores scored the first run and Aiden Torrez chalked up two more runs on the scoreboard with a home run over the left field fence. James Cummings later scored to make the score 4-0.

Noah Libed started on the mound for the Braves; Will Alvarez closed out the victory.

The constant din from fans, especially the youngest ones, created an electric atmosphere.

District TOC championships wrapped up Thursday in the 6U and 8U divisions as well as the Minor Division tier.

In the 6U Division, Chula Vista American defeated Sweetwater Valley 14-8.

In the 8U Division, Sweetwater Valley defeated Park View 11-9.

In the Minor Division, Sweetwater Valley defeated Park View 7-3.
