Otay Ranch dominates Mission Bay in 49-13 football victory

The Otay Ranch Mustangs football team won its second consecutive game with an explosive offensive and defensive performance. Quarterback Cody Springsguth completed seven of 15 passing attempts for 138 yards and four touchdowns while the ORHS rushing attack amassed 295 yards on 37 carries. The Mustangs (2-1) led 21-13 at halftime but shut the door on the host Bucs (1-2) with a 28-0 edge in the second half.

David Mondy rushed 10 times for 101 yards and scored one rushing touchdown and one receiving touchdown. Chris Martin, who had two TD catches, had two receptions for 79 yards, including one catch for 69 yards. Nicolas Gula (15 yards from Springsguth) and Angel Mendoza (12 yards from Sammy Perez) each had one touchdown catch while Deondrick Cunningham (eight carries, 82 yards) added one rushing score.

James Adams keyed the Otay Ranch defense with 11 tackles and one sack while Andre Jones and Justin Doton each had eight stops. Jordan Peterson, who made seven tackles, had one interception while Andre Jones blocked a punt and recovered a fumble. Steven Alexander also had a fumble recovery.

The Mustangs host Ramona (0-3) this Friday. Springsguth has thrown for 432 yards in three games with seven touchdowns and three picks. Rushing leaders include Anthony Williams (215 yards), Mondy (213 yards) and Cunningham (130 yards). Mondy leads the team with four touchdowns. Martin had made 10 catches for 182 yards and three TDs while Andre Jones had four catches for 76 yards and two scores.
