Training academy to attract women to politics planned

Run Women Run, a nonpartisan organization that recruits and trains women to seek elected and appointed office, is holding a virtual training academy in eight sessions over July 10, 11, 24 and 25.

The sessions, such as Campaign Finance and Fundraising, Successful Campaign Management and Grassroots Field Programs, and Everything You Ever Wanted To Know about Campaigning to Win are intended for individuals interested in supporting women running for office, working on a campaign, or planning to run for elected or appointed office themselves.

Each session costs $30, attendees can choose to sign up for all eight sessions and become a certified Run Women Run leader or select key sessions to attend.
Participants can also register for an all-access $150 pass that includes a one-year Run Women Run membership.

Run Women Run President Hilary Nemchik said the organization’s goal is to help leaders in all parts of San Diego county succeed, especially at community-level roles.

“Women make up half of the population, but are woefully underrepresented in government. With more women at the table, decisions are made that reflect the needs of the entire community. Our training is designed to expose attendees to a spectrum of leadership and networking opportunities that help them get a foot in the door,” Nemchik said.

She hopes that by making training digital this year, the academy will prove more accessible throughout the region.

“Run Women Run has strong relationships with South Bay leaders who have served on our board of directors and share their time and talents with our members. We held one of our last in-person political training sessions in National City and had an excellent turnout,” Nemchik said.
