National City on the rise

National City is emerging as a place where opportunity and reinvention are a perfect match. With a population of roughly 58,000 residents, National City is one of the most densely populated communities in San Diego County and is uniquely positioned along the San Diego Bay.

Long known for its working waterfront, military ties, and regional commerce, National City is on the precipice of a new transformation. Major reinvestment efforts—particularly along the waterfront—are reshaping how residents, businesses, and visitors connect. This is fantastic news for Southern Californians and anyone who wants to live and thrive in this region. With such growth comes opportunity—and responsibility—to build the necessary infrastructure so businesses, schools, and communities can flourish.

The National City Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to driving economic growth, supporting vibrant businesses, and fostering entrepreneurship. We champion diversity, integrity, and excellence to strengthen the city’s economic vitality and enhance quality of life. Whether it’s housing developments such as Paradise Creek, waterfront enhancements under the bayfront plan, or students learning in California Distinguished Schools, dependable internet access is essential.

As redevelopment accelerates, reliable high-speed connectivity is essential. Cox Communications has long been a trusted local provider, investing in its broadband network and our local communities to help bridge the digital divide. Now, growing demand requires greater scale and resources. Connectivity is the cornerstone of modern growth, as vital as roads and powerlines.

Part of that growth, of course, is digital opportunity, another area to which Cox has fully committed. Even so, some households and small businesses still struggle to access consistent, affordable broadband. This creates gaps in education and access to things like employment opportunities, online banking, and healthcare. When students can’t connect, entrepreneurs can’t reach their customers, or seniors can’t gain access to telehealth, they are stunted in their ability to be full participants in the community. That, in turn, impacts all of us.

The National City Chamber of Commerce prioritizes infrastructure as a foundation for growth. Over the past decade alone, Cox has invested billions of dollars across its footprint—including major investment in California’s regional markets, like right here in the South Bay. Expanded coverage improves service, creates skilled jobs, and strengthens the regional economy.
