Chula Vista city officials broke ground Feb. 9 on the future site of Fire Station 12, marking a key investment in emergency services along the Bayfront. The new station, located at 610 Bay Blvd., will strengthen fire and medical response in one of the city’s fastest-growing and highest-density areas. Construction is expected to be completed by late fall 2026.
Mayor John McCann called the project “a meaningful investment in our Bayfront and a clear symbol of our city’s commitment to revitalizing long-established neighborhoods throughout the city of Chula Vista.”
He added that it reflects the city’s ongoing commitment to public safety, smart planning, and quality of life for residents.
The approximately 1.5-acre project will include a 5,433-square-foot modular living quarters, a 6,191-square-foot apparatus bay, and 2,309 square feet dedicated to equipment storage housed in two sprung structures. The station is designed with a 10- to 15-year service lifespan, aligning with the City’s long-term development plans.
Fire Station 12 will operate 24/7 and be staffed by 10 personnel at launch, with capacity for up to 16. The station will house Engine 62, Truck 62, and Medic 62, providing full-spectrum emergency services to surrounding neighborhoods.
“Station 12 is going to prepare us for the demand of the emergency services that we’re dedicated to provide,” said Fire Chief Chris Manroe.
“It is a proactive step towards long-term community resilience and emergency preparedness.”
City officials said the interim station provides a scalable and efficient solution as planning and permitting continue for permanent facilities, underscoring Chula Vista’s continued focus on community safety and firefighter readiness.
