The South Bay welcomed its first and only BMW dealership on Feb. 3 as BMW of Chula Vista officially celebrated its grand opening.

The event drew community members, media, and BMW enthusiasts for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a showcase of the brand’s newest luxury offerings, from high-performance sedans and SUVs to electric models and premium motorcycles.

For Michael Sargeant, director of marketing at Sunroad Automotive, the excitement surrounding the opening was unmistakable.

“What stood out most was the energy from the Chula Vista community,” Sargeant said. “It wasn’t just about having BMW here — it was about the high-quality jobs and economic opportunities this dealership brings to the area.”

The dealership’s location was selected to offer more than just vehicle sales.

“It’s about convenience for our customers,” Sargeant said. “Not only can people buy their ultimate driving machine here, but they can also service it locally without having to travel far.”

Future Retail
The new showroom reflects BMW’s “Future Retail” concept, which emphasizes a low-pressure, customer-focused experience.

“From lounge-style seating to a restructured sales approach, the goal is to make the buying process relaxed and enjoyable,” Sargeant said.
Community Interest

Strong community interest was evident in both turnout and engagement during the opening event. The dealership is part of Sunroad Automotive, which has served San Diego County since 1984. Uri Feldman, president of Sunroad Enterprises, said the opening represents a long-term investment in the region.

“We’re focused on thoughtful growth with great brands and strong relationships,” Feldman said. “San Diego County is a core part of our future.”

BMW of Chula Vista distinguishes itself through its scale, technology, and dual automotive and motorcycle operations. The dealership houses BMW vehicles and BMW Motorrad under one roof and offers both internal combustion and electric vehicle options, supported by advanced service technology.

“We’re tailoring our offerings for the EV market while continuing to serve traditional BMW drivers,” Sargeant said.
High-Profile Presence

The grand opening also included visits from BMW leadership, including Sebastian Mackensen, CEO of BMW North America, and Kevin Phillips, president of BMW Motorrad, underscoring the importance of the South Bay location.

Looking ahead, BMW of Chula Vista plans to continue evolving alongside customer expectations and vehicle technology, offering ongoing training and resources to ensure staff are prepared to guide customers through both traditional and electric BMW ownership.

“The opening of BMW of Chula Vista represents the future of luxury in our community — and we’re excited to be part of it every step of the way,” Sargeant said.
