Do away with casual racist attitude

Virginia Governor Northam is being pressured to resign after a yearbook photo of him posed in blackface became viral.

The photo is about thirty years old, and in addition to shocking people around the nation, it is dredging up unpleasant memories.

Many senior Americans remember minstrel shows, blackface Halloween costumes…and more blantantly racist displays once seen as “comical” and “entertaining”.
Now, as America deals with escalating racially motivated violence-the casual attitude toward mocking any ethnic group has become unacceptable.

Perhaps the time has come to purge every racist act, leave no act excused, overlooked or even forgiven if we are to rid America of the disease of racism once and for all.
