Abducted woman rescued in Chula Vista

A 42-year-old man believed to have kidnapped a woman from Oakland was arrested March 25 after his victim talked him into taking her to the hospital.

Police said that Marco Velasquez had reportedly abducted a female acquaintance the previous afternoon, forced her into the trunk of her vehicle and drove through the night on his way to Mexico where he was allegedly going to kill her.

The woman, whose name is being withheld by police, received multiple injuries including two black eyes, broken teeth and several abrasions.

Police said the victim, who had been bound and gagged, managed to free herself from the gag and convinced her assailant to take her to the hospital.

When the pair arrived at Scripps Memorial Hospital in Chula Vista, the victim told hospital staff about her ordeal. Staff reported the incident to police at about 4:30 a.m.

When police arrived they arrested Velasquez, who was in the waiting room.

Velasquez has been charged with nine felony counts by the Alameda County District Attorney, including kidnapping, false imprisonment, sexual assault, terrorist threats, and domestic violence. The Chula Vista Police Department is working with the Oakland Police Department, and the investigation is continuing.
