Twenty-two-year-old sentenced for sex with teen

A Chula Vista man who admitted to having sex with a 13-year-old runaway girl whom he had met on Facebook has been sentenced to eight years in state prison.

Johnathan Nunez, 22, met the girl after she ran away from her Bakersfield home on March 10. She stayed with him for several weeks before he was arrested on April 5 by Chula Vista Police.

Nunez pleaded guilty to committing lewd and lascivious acts with the girl and being a felon in possession of a firearm, said Deputy District Attorney Mary Loeb on Aug. 16. A loaded pistol was found in his car.

Probation was denied by Chula Vista Superior Court Judge Theodore Weathers, who gave him credit for serving four months in jail.

Nunez was acquainted with the girl’s brother and communicated with her online on Facebook. The girl also stayed with her aunt for a while after leaving her mother.

Bakersfield Police asked Chula Vista Police to look for the girl at an apartment on Naples Street where Nunez lived.
