A convicted killer already serving a long prison term was sentenced May 5 to a consecutive term of 15 years to life for the 1987 slaying of a young National City man.

Robert William Nydegger, 63, appeared before San Diego Superior Court Judge Jeff Fraser who imposed the sentence for the 1987 murder of Crispino Buzon, 24. Prosecutors believe robbery was the motive.

Buzon and Nydegger both worked in the Navy. Buzon disappeared in 1987. His remains were found in 2008.

Nydegger made no statement in court and declined an interview with the probation department.

Fraser said he wasn’t eligible to get credits in jail since he is already serving a sentence of 25 years to life for killing a former roommate in 1989.

Nydegger was fined $10,000. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on April 2.

Carlos Buzon, the victim’s brother, spoke of the anguish he and his now deceased parents and other family members had when his brother disappeared.

Crispino Buzon worked with Nydegger at the Naval Hospital near Balboa Park, and his car was left at the hospital.

Nydegger was convicted by a jury in 1991 in San Diego Superior Court of first-degree murder in the Sept. 18, 1988, death of Timothy Cudd, who was found dead in a refrigerator.
