Scream ’14 set for ‘spooktacular’ fun at Bonita Vista High School

South County’s biggest Halloween party, the spooktacular musical event Scream ’14, will take place Oct. 18 and 25, at 8 p.m. at Bonita Vista High School.

BVHS will convert its entire quad into an outdoor Halloween music festival and block party featuring the award-winning Music Machine, Sound Unlimited and Lady Tones show choirs. Food, games, face painting and the screening of a classic Halloween film will follow the performances.

Tickets are $20 and are available at 2014scream@gmail.com.

BVHS vocal music director Gail Kennedy said Scream ’14 was inspired by the long-running Scream with the Machine series created by Ron and Reina Bolles.

“Scream is so much fun and so popular that it sells out almost immediately,” Kennedy said. “We wanted more people to be able to join in the fun, so we are moving it outside and turning it into a full-on family Halloween carnival.”

BVHS senior Michael Atwood, the Music Machine’s assistant director, said Scream ’14 would be the equivalent of “the Coachella carnival.”

“It’s going to be so much fun,” he said. “Adults and teenagers and little kids will all love it. We are going to have a wickedly cool haunted hallway. Scream ‘14 will be a scream!”

BVHS alumnus Giancarlo Dongo is serving as emcee for the event. He said he is looking forward to this year’s format change.

“Scream is a lot different than last year because it is mixing a carnival and a show,” he said. “It should be a fun time for people of all ages and all the performers and their parents have been working extremely hard to put this all together, so they can’t wait to show off their talent on Saturday.”

Doors open at 7:30 p.m. on both Oct. 18 and 25.
