Charlie Brown, Snoopy and friends come to life through CYT

One of Broadway’s biggest successes comes to Chula Vista as Christian Youth Theater brings the beloved characters of the Charles Schulz cartoon strip “Peanuts” to the live stage in the classic musical “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.”

Performances are at the Mater Dei Catholic High School Theater on Friday, May 22, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, May 23 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday, May 24, at 2 p.m. The theater is located at 1615 Mater Dei Drive, Chula Vista.

The CYT production follows the award-winning 1999 Broadway revival version. Snapshots feature Charlie Brown and Lucy at the psychiatry booth; Schroeder and Lucy at the piano; Linus with his blanket; Snoopy’s battles with the Red Baron; and the whole gang at the baseball game.

Hilarious comic sequences are animated by high-energy song-and-dance performances that create non-stop entertainment for both children and adults.

More than 60 local youths comprise the talented cast of actors, singers, dancers and technical crew who will have audiences tapping their toes and moving to the music long after the silliness ends.

Playing the lovable Charlie Brown is John Albright, 18, of Grossmont College. Madelin Chavez, 17, of Otay Ranch High School, shows her canine sensibilities as the adorable Snoopy. Megan Weilersbacher, 18, brings to life loudmouth Lucy. Justin Stella, 13, of Coronado Middle School, is the blanket-toting Linus.

Ivanna Quiceno, 18, of Mater Dei Catholic High School, plays the part of little sister Sally. Joshua Powers, 18, of Lutheran High School, plays the budding pianist Schroeder. Mia Apalategui, 17, of Bonita High School, plays Peppermint Patty. Sofia Gurrola, 13, of St. Therese Academy, is Marcie. Kaede Muller, 15, of Bonita Vista High School, plays Pig Pen. Jackson Lawrence, 13, of Dehesa Charter, plays Woodstock.
