The Eastlake High School boys lacrosse team remained undefeated in the early stages of the single circuit Metro Conference standings following Monday’s 11-1 victory at Hilltop High School.

The Titans improved to 3-0 in league play, 6-7 overall, after previously defeating Mar Vista (20-1 on April 14) and Bonita Vista (7-6 on April 21).

Eastlake is finding continued success under new head coach Tristan Corpus, a 2018 EHS grad who went on to attend Notre Dame de Namur University on a lacrosse scholarship.

“When I heard the team needed a head coach, it was more of a service to the community that I applied,” Corpus said. “It’s so cool to coach here and help the kids where I was in the same position a few years ago.”

Markell Bivens led the Titans to their latest win by scoring three goals while Asher Bishop and Sam Archer each scored two goals. Nathaniel Trinidad, Eric Plascencia, Trevor Pond and Nadir Albandar each scored once.

Damian Cepeda was credited with Hilltop’s lone goal.

The Lancers (8-9 overall, 2-2 in league) were coming off a 12-1 win over Mar Vista on April 21 as Aaron Hood piled up three goals and one assist, Emilio Contreras tallied three times and Victor Pelayo collected two goals and one assist.

Barons, Eagles take lacrosse indoors in exhibition

The Bonita Vista and Olympian boys lacrosse teams had an opportunity to play a halftime exhibition match April 15 during the intermission of a San Diego Seals National League Lacrosse professional game at Pechanga Arena.

The teams were on the field for eight minutes. Bonita Vista prevailed, 1-0, on a goal by senior midfielder Leonardo Zepeda.

“Such an awesome experience for my team,” Olympian coach Keith Quigley said. “They really loved getting to play on the Seals field at halftime of their game. Chance of a lifetime experience. Not many kids get to play on a pro team’s field. After the game they basically all asked me if we can do this again next season!”

The Seals play on a carpeted surface in a standard ice hockey rink enclosure.

“The team really liked the fast play with the ball bouncing off the boards,” Quigley said.

Parents from the two schools helped set up the exhibition as both teams were already planning on attending the game as a fundraiser for the schools.

Bonita Vista coach Peter Locke called it a “great opportunity” for his team.

“The players got to warm up on the Seals practice field prior to the game,” Locke said. “The boys really enjoyed themselves and the experience.”

The Barons improved to 8-4 on the season, 2-1 in league play, following Monday’s 22-1 victory against Mater Dei Catholic.

“We have been having a great season so far,” Locke said.  “We picked up a big win against Canyon Crest Academy (8-1 on April 14). We are looking forward to the rest of the season.”

The Seals dropped an 11-10 decision to the Panther City Lacrosse Club to close out their regular season home schedule. The Seals, who have qualified for the playoffs, close out their regular season schedule Saturday at Vancouver.
