Teen’s prelim delayed until 2016

The preliminary hearing for a 19-year-old man accused of a brutal murder in Chula Vista was delayed until March 29, 2016 at his attorney’s request.

Saul Johnathan Orozco waived having a speedy hearing Tuesday before a Chula Vista Superior Court judge in the Aug. 4 death of Carlos Gutierrez in the 2800 block of Cielo Circulo at an Eastlake townhome complex.

Gutierrez’s lawyer filed a written motion to delay the hearing to give him more time prepare. Orozco, who was initially identified as Carlos Orozco, was chasing Gutierrez before the stabbing.

Orozco was covered in blood, had stab wounds on his own hands, and was arrested after a police dog was deployed.

Orozco had fled the scene and was about one qaurter of a mile away from where Gutierrez was found.

Gutierrez was around 18 or 19 years old and had more than one wound.

Orozco has pleaded not guilty and remains in jail on $2 million bail.
