Rebranded business group hosts Amps & Ales

The Downtown Chula Vista Association, formally Third Avenue Village Association, is holding its first signature event under its new moniker, Amps & Ales on Sept. 17 from noon to 4 p.m. (VIP) and 1-4 p.m. general admission. The event has more than 30 local and international breweries, two stages with live music. Unlike the past, held at Memorial Park, this event completely takes over Third Avenue allowing guests to stroll through downtown.

This year’s headliner is the B-Side Players, with additional music from Marauak, The Gravities, Cumbia Machin, Euphoria Brass Band, and The Routine.

DCCA District Manager Dominic Li Mandri said presented by Grasshopper, the event has been smaller in past years but is bringing back Amps & Ales in “full force” this year.

“We have some excellent breweries that have signed on to showcase their different beers and tastes,” he said. “Three of those breweries are international breweries from Mexico.”

Li Mandri said the event is situated between Parkway and F Street on Third Avenue. He said though it is being advertised as an international beer festival, it wants to be inclusive, so it has several wine options, and want to cater to the “variety” of different tastes.

“We are hoping that the Chula Vista community and the South bay community will come down and support these local breweries and get a taste of the culture down here in downtown Chula Vista,” he said. “Events like this we see as great awareness as what downtown Chula Vista, the new businesses that we have moving into the area. What we heard from past events from people, is that they discovered new restaurants, eateries, and new shops that they did not know that had moved on Third Avenue.”
