Inaugural girls Lacrosse by the Lake tournament captured by host Eastlake

Eastlake High School played host to last weekend’s finals of the inaugural Lacrosse by the Lake girls tournament by winning both the varsity and junior varsity championships.

Eastlake defeated Sage Creek, 9-1, to win the varsity team title while the Titans edged Vista, 4-3, in overtime to claim the JV title.

Six teams competed in the varsity division while 10 teams competed in the JV division.

Competition took place April 7 and April 14.

Eastlake defeated Bonita Vista (9-1), Hemet (13-1) and Murrieta Valley (13-4) to advance to the varsity championship game.

Cori Montero earned the Most Valuable Player award in the varsity division while Tess Johnson was named MVP in the JV division.

Varsity teams included Eastlake, Murrieta Valley, Bonita Vista in the Blue Division and Castle Park, Hemet and Sage Creek in the Green Division.

JV teams included Eastlake A, Santana, Murrieta Valley, Bonita Vista and Hemet in the Blue Division and Castle Park, Grossmont, Vista, San Ysidro and Eastlake B in the Green Division.

Bonita Vista finished 1-2 in varsity tournament play by defeating Murrieta Valley 6-4, and dropping contests to both Eastlake and Sage Creek (5-4).

Castle Park finished 0-3 in varsity tournament play with losses to Hemet (14-3), Murrieta Valley (9-1) and Sage Creek (8-0).

Eastlake defeated Bonita Vista (7-1) and Santana (10-0) to face off JV tournament play on April 7.

Eastlake defeated host Hilltop, 11-7, on Monday to remain undefeated in varsity league play at 5-0 and, in the process, improve to 13-1 overall on the season.

Kika Funk scored four goals while Montero had three goals.
