COVID-19 in South County

In March 2020 state and local authorities issued stay-at-homes directives telling people to stay home to slow the spread of COVID-19, a coronavirus that has reached pandemic proportions and infected nearly 25,000 people and killed more than 800 statewide. The pandemic has changed the way people live their day to day lives as some businesses have been forced to close and people asked to limit their social contact by staying home. Many public spaces have been shut down to limit access.

Residents and staff at Plaza Village senior living community in National City waved to friends and family from a distance in April. The gathering was intended to allow loved ones to see each other safely during the COVID-19 pandemic that has required people to stay socially distant by at least six feet. Many senior care facilities in the county have adapted strict policies limiting who can and cannot visit residents. (Photo by Rick Eaton)
