Eastlake, Otay Ranch face showdown for Metro girls lacrosse lead

The Eastlake High School and Otay Ranch High School girls lacrosse teams have produced some giddy numbers in 2016. Both teams are 8-1 in Metro Conference play. On top of that, Eastlake is off to an overall 12-1 start while Otay Ranch is 10-1.

But the logjam at the top of the conference’s eight-team standings appears aready to be broken. Eastlake hosts Otay Ranch Monday (April 18) at 6 p.m.

The two conference leaders could have company if they should falter down the stretch run. Hilltop is 7-2 in league, 8-4 overall, heading into Monday’s game against visiting Bonita Vista.

Eastlake is coming off a 13-3 win at Olympian on April 13. Julia Masias leads the Lady Titans is season scoring with 23 goals and seven assists, followed by teammates Payton Olson with 18 goals and four assists, Abby Mina with 12 goals and six assists, Erika Farrage with 10 goals and eight assist, Janelle Fortuno with 14 goals and two assists, Tiva Krahenbul with 14 goals and one assist and Sasha Thrower with  12 goals and three assists.

Gio Hinojosa boasts a 1.8 goals-against average, 0.7 save percentage and four shutouts. She’s been in the net for all 13 Eastlake games with a 12-1 record.

Otay Ranch edged visiting Hilltop, 7-5, on April 12 to join Eastlake at the top of the standings. The Lady Mustangs also handed the Lady Titans their only loss this season – 8-7 in overtime on March 24.
