A new women’s club in Bonita will become a reality on Jan. 20 when the recently elected officers of the Opti-Ms. will take office in ceremonies at the Bonita Golf Club. The Opti-Ms, an all women organization, is associated with but entirely independent from the local optimist club. They are a service organization which will function similar to the umbrella club, the Optimists. That is, they will be assisting other persons within the community. Being installed as president will be Mary Shank; as vice-president, Glennalie Coleman; as secretary, Sandy Beltran; as treasurer, Betty Polselli; and Phyllis Cunningham as director at-large. Membership is open to all women in the community. More information may be had by contacting any of the above officers.

The Bonita Golf Club will also be the scene for the installation of the 1984 officers of the Bonita Business and Professional Assn. tomorrow evening.
Receiving the gavel from outgoing president Larry Latoure will be Glennalie Coleman, a local realtor. Filling out the slate of officers are Don Glover, vice president; Gail Huckel, secretary; and Jan Smith, the treasurer. This writer will be the installing officer. The installation banquet will be followed by an evening of dancing to the soft tunes of a local band “Our Song.”

The Bonita Valley Republican Women will hold their regular monthly meeting on Monday Jan. 23. The meeting, a catered luncheon, will be held at the home of member Pat Young. Reservations may be made by calling 267-0450. Attendance is open to all women of the area.

The local Optimist Club has reported that they are opening a new evening section to go with the present morning group. The purpose of the evening club is to open membership to those men wishing to be Optimists but are unable to attend morning meetings. Bonitan Ed Myer will be the founding president. There will be a Busy Persons Breakfast at the San Diego Church of religious Science, located in the Bonita Professional Building on Bonita Road. The Reverend Sheila Alberts has plans for having these breakfasts periodically and they are given for the purpose of “getting everyone off to a good start.” Further information can be obtained by calling the church at 475-2909.

Keeping championships in the family seems to be the mode at the Bonita Valley Tennis Club. Early in the fall, the men’s open singles championship of the club was won by 16-yearold Paul Carbone. Not to be left behind, his 11-yearold sister, Connie won the ladies open singles championship a few weeks later.
The Carbone Youngsters are the children of Jana and Fred Carbone of Bonita.
