David Mondy rushed for 181 yards and scored on runs of eight and 63 yards while also catching a three-yard scoring pass from Cody Springsguth to help pace visiting Otay Ranch (2-1, 5-4) past Mater Dei Catholic, 42-0, in a Metro-Mesa League encounter last Friday.

Springsguth (30 yards), Andre Jones (one yard) and Donald Molton (18 yards) also scored on touchdown runs while Billie Bechtel tacked on six extra-point kicks.

The Mustangs took command of the game early with 21 first quarter points as Mondy twice scored on runs and Jones also broke into the end zone. The Otay Ranch lead mushroomed to 35-0 at halftime as Springsguth passed to Mondy and Springsguth later bolted into the end zone on a quarterback carry.

Molton scored the Mustangs’ final touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Otay Ranch rushed for 338 yards on 39 carries, led by Mondy. Molton had five carries for 51 yards while Dominique Cruz gained 46 yards on seven carries.

Springsguth completed two of three passing attempts for 20 yards while Marcus Hernandez had one completion for 29 yards (to Marques Roberts).

The Mustang defense was active in posting the shutout victory. Kyle Doton and Tyler Hawkins each had sacks while John Dumaran made one interception.

Otay Ranch enjoys a bye week before hosting the Chula Vista Spartans to close out regular season play.

The Mustangs are one of eight Division I teams with winning records. The top 12 teams in the division qualify for the section playoffs.
