Xolos defeat familiar face

Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente sent a statement to the rest of the teams in Liga MX after defeating the league champions Club America 1-0.

In a game were the Xolos appeared one week after losing their season at the hands of a much weaker team in Puebla FC, a victory was necessary to return to form and that is what occurred at Estadio Caliente.

The opening showed two teams playing superb soccer as both squads created opportunities to score, however Club Tijuana had more chances but goalkeeper America’s Moises Munoz kept the score even with his numerous saves.
In the 43rd minute the Xolos took the lead as newcomer Gabriel Hauche found forward Dayro Moreno who hit the ball past the Munoz just before haltime.

In the second half America attempted to tie the game and got close to accomplishing that goal. Former Xolos forward Dario Benedetto, who now plays with America, received a pass and he was fouled inside the area for a penalty.
Goalkeeper Cirilo Saucedo became the game MVP when he stopped forward Oribe Peralta’s ensuing penalty kick as he guessed the location of the shot.

Both teams continued working diligently to create opportunities and the Xolos seemed closer to scoring once again, but Munoz was spectacular as he defended his goal for the rest of the game without allowing any more.
