Water park opens for seventh season

South Bay residents looking to beat the heat this summer can once again head over to Chula Vista’s Aquatica water park, which opened its doors for the seventh year on May 24.

The SeaWorld owned and operated waterpark is located off of Entertainment Circle in Chula Vista, and includes heated pools, seven rides/water slides, animal exhibits and a variety of dining options.

The park is open every day until Sept. 2, when it transitions to a weekend-only schedule before shutting its doors for the year on Oct. 6.

Single day tickets are $47.99 for guests ages 10 and up, while guests between the age of three and nine cost $42.99. Guests under the age of three are granted free entry.

Those looking to attend the park multiple times may want to consider opting for the Aquatica Splash Pass, which costs $49.99 and grants access for the entire summer season.
Another option is the Ultimate Season Pass, which is available for $89.99 and includes admission for the entire season, as well as two guest passes.

Some pool attractions to check out this year include Big Surf Shores, a wave pool with more than 500,000 gallons of water that produces a five-foot swell, and Walkabout Waters, which boasts four stories of slides, hoses, jets and geysers.

Guests can also utilize a 43,000 square foot white sand beach next to Big Surf Shores, which is furnished with lawn chairs and cabanas.

Splash seekers looking for an adrenaline rush can check out a variety of different rides and slides at the park, including Tassie’s Twister, a 75-foot water slide which features a six story drop, or HooHoo run, which has both enclosed and open-air versions of an 80-foot slide.

Guests who are not afraid of the dark might want to check out Kiwi Curl and Woohoo Falls, which offer the choice of sliding in complete darkness.

In addition to rides, the park also has animal friends for guests to admire, including more than a dozen Caribbean flamingos near Loggerhead Lane – a 1,250 foot lazy river – and a habitat of freshwater turtles, which can be seen in an exhibit that allows for both above and underwater viewing.

A variety of food options are available for those who manage to work up an appetite, including burgers from Waterstone Grill, chicken tenders from Big Surf Snacks, and pasta and pizza from the Italian-themed Mango Market.

Craft beer is available as an adult beverage at both Taumata Cart and Rockwater Oasis, with the latter also serving margaritas.

Guests looking for a place to leave their personal items can choose from three different sized electronic lockers, while Kiwi Trader’s sells items such as towels, sunscreen and sandals for those who forgot to stock up.

Complimentary life vests are available in all sizes and given to guests upon entry into the park.
