Village beer and music festival slated for pre- Mother’s Day

Chula Vista’s Third Avenue Village Association will be hosting the Avenue Amps & Ales celebration from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on May 11 at Memorial Park.

“This is our fourth Avenue Amps & Ales,” said event manager for Third Avenue Village Association, Kelly Lannom. “Last year we had about 400 (in attendance).”
The event is Chula Vista’s original craft beer and musical festival for the 21-and-up-age crowd. A portion of the ticket proceeds will be donated to the Chula Vista Police Foundation.

Two bands, the Rowdies and Rum band and the Montell Jordans will supply the amps part of the festival.

Chula Vista businesses such as Thr3e Punk Ales Brewing Company, Third Avenue Alehouse, Bar Sin Nombre, and tens of other south bay brew, wine, cider and spirit flavors will be offered for the ticket price.

“It brings the community out, “said Chula Vista Brewery owner Tim Parker of the event.

“It’s good for the community.”

The Chula Vista Brewery will be bringing a namesake brew.

“One is going to be our ‘Browner than Ivan’,” said the brewery’s head brewer James Hodges, of what the Chula Vista Brewery is bringing to the event. The brew is named after Thr3e Punk Ales Brewing Company’s brewer Ivan Maldonado.

“All of our Third Avenue businesses will be open for food purchases,” said Lannom. Don Pedro Taco Shop, Fuddruckers, La Bella Pizza Garden, and other Third avenue businesses will be available for food purchases. Guests can also bring in their own food.
Early bird tickets are $35 up until the day of the event, on Eventbrite, according to Lannom, but will be $40 at the door the day of. Industry hours are from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m.

The event is sponsored by Seven Mile Casino and South Bay Fence Co.

Lannom recommends taking an Uber, MTS, or Lyft even though metered parking and free parking is available near Memorial Park. No outside beverages, weapons, or pets are allowed in the event area. Valid ID is required at the entrance.

“Avenue Amps & Ales showcases the craft breweries in Chula Vista,” said owner of Thr3e Punk Ales Brewing Company, Kevin Lewis. “They also bring in other breweries from San Diego and some from Tijuana.”

The event has sold out in previous years.
