That special Valentine could be one app – or cooking class – away

There are options for finding a valentine in time for Valentine’s Day 2019 in Chula Vista and National City. Some of them may be the old-fashioned way of meeting “the right one.”

“A lot of our programs are for the kids and this program was created for adults,” said Erni Barros, branch manager at the Chula Vista Libary Civic Center location.”This program was created for adults and what better way to learn a quick cake-deco for your valentine than our Feb. 13 Cupcakes with Claudia?” The class for adults focuses on learning different piping techniques to create a Valentine’s Day themed cupcake.

“If you find your valentine early you can make homemade truffles for them at our truffle class on Feb. 9,” said Cheryl Gallagher, owner of Standlee’s Inc. on Third Avenue. She recommends signing up as early as possible.

Other ways of meeting a future partner, however, may rely more on social media.
Amber Brooks, on DatingAdvise.com, had suggestions on finding a love match in Chula Vista. Brooks recommends the best singles site as Match.com.

The best site for professionals, according to Brooks, is EliteSingles. She claims the premium platform pairs up a new couple every eight minutes with more than 90 percent of its members seeking a long-term relationship.

For the over-50 and seniors there is a site, OurTime.com, which can be searched by zip and more. “OurTime is well-known in the over-50 dating crowd, particularly because it has a ton of helpful search features and an easy layout,” Brooks wrote.

Tinder, an app that can be installed on your cell phone, is for ages 17 and older. Its opening line is “Discover new and interesting people nearby.” A user creates an account, puts in their name, data and a picture.

For black men and women only there’s the BlackPeopleMeet.com app, considered a niche dating site that caters to black and biracial daters who want to date someone who shares a similar cultural background.

Zoosk.com syncs up your Google-plus or Facebook account, and can narrow down your search to include National City and Chula Vista. The app has 38 million members and will deliver matches to your inbox daily.

Bumble touts itself as “Date. Meet Friends. Network,” swiping profiles that turn into finding love. Swiping left and right has become the norm in the dating world. Bumble is considered better for those who want a relationship. Some might even have seen tennis star Serena Williams’ “Balls in her Court” Super Bowl commercial touting Bumble and having women take charge of their dating life.

Then there is the blind date aspect. Or school reunions. Ask a friend if they know anyone who would be a good match for you. Or attend local events that offer first glimpses and the chance for immediate chemistry to hit.

Meetup groups such as San Diego Single Parents Meetup, Active Singles Adventures, Movers ‘n More, and All The Single Ladies – All The Single Men are noted on the Meetup San Diego website. The groups include members in this area.
