Sweetwater High School boys volleyball tourney makes debut

The inaugural Sweetwater High School Lions Club Tournament wrapped up March 7 at the National City school with playoff and championship games.

San Pasqual defeated St. Augustine to win the Gold Division championship while Montgomery defeated San Diego to win the Silver Division championship.

Twenty-five teams participated in the two-day tournament. Teams were divided into six pools (five four-team pools, one five-team pool).

Hilltop defeated Helix in the Gold Division quarterfinals and San Pasqual defeated Hilltop in the semifinals to meet St. Augustine.

San Diego defeated West Hills in the Silver Division semifinals to meet Montgomery.

The all-tournament team included San Pasqual’s Chris Bonar and Joel Greenfield, St. Augustine’s Kasimir Tan, Bonita Vista’s Cameron Short, Valley Center’s Daniel De Leon and Helix’s Marcus Norris.
