Bomb experts detonated a lunch box on the Southwestern College campus this afternoon after they received reports of a suspicious package in a classroom.
College spokesman Chris Bender said the lunch box, which was found underneath blinds in building 1680, was destroyed as a precautionary measure.
Earlier in the day student Hudson Hyatt, 30, said he saw a campus police officer arrive on the scene.
“I was headed to class and campus police pulled up in their cart and someone asked him why he was there,” Hyatt said. “The police officer came out holding a soft lunch box and set it on the bench outside and went back inside to vacate the area.”
Initial media reports had suggested a suspicious package had been mailed to a college professor but those reports were not true, Bender said.
