Summer lunch available

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego county is offering free meals for children age 19 years and younger at several sites this summer on a rotational basis.

Regional Manager Christiann Stewart said the program is part of their camp program but “any child can participate, first come first served” whether or not they are enrolled in a program.

In National City, free lunches and afternoon snacks will be offered through July 23 at Bob Payne Family Boys and Girls Club Branch located at 1430 D Ave.

Additionally, the program will be offered from June 21 through August 27 at clubs in Clairemont, Linda Vista, and Poway, as well as from June 21 through August 10 in Escondido.

All sites will be closed on July 5.

No eligibility documentation is required and free meals will be made available without regard to race, color, gender, physical ability or national origin.
The summer food service program is funded by the California Department of Education, Nutrition Services Department, Stewart said, with meals prepared and delivered fresh to locations each day by Neighborhood House Association, a centralized food service operation led by a registered dietitian.
