Something in the water

A long time ago in a place not so far away a young couple, both graduates from Mar Vista High School, got married. It was August 5th, 1961 in Coronado. Ken and Mary tell people that they have been married 60 years and people at first don’t believe it. When they realize it is true they say it is unique and special. It is special to us and we are celebrating with a luau themed party at our home. We have especially focused on inviting the people who were in the wedding, and others who are also special to us.

Now, for the unique part. We don’t think of a 60 year marriage as unique as some others might. At the party there will be other couples, good friends, who have also been married 60 years. They are also graduates of Mar Vista High School. The Reeds, Payatts, Cooks and Purvises will be here to help celebrate 60 year marriages. The Whites, Trammells, and Munchiandos will not be in attendance but also share this distinction in 2021. All are graduates of Mar Vista High School from 1959 or 60. Now we are talking about unique.

The only answer we can come up with for how this uniqueness can be explained is simple. It must have been something in the ocean water in Imperial Beach where we all swam, body surfed, or watched the sunset. What a wonderful time.

There will also be people at the luau that have been married for 55 years or more, special and unique.
