A Chula Vista bank robber who fled on a Lime electric scooter was sentenced Monday to 57 months in federal prison.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Brehm said Mario Daniel Haro, 32, was ordered to pay an even $1,000 to the Chase Bank, at 2121 Olympic Parkway, in Chula Vista. It was held up on Oct. 14, 2019.
Haro, a U.S. citizen who resided in Rosarito, pleaded guilty to bank robbery. A U.S. District Court judge sentenced him Monday.
Haro was also convicted of robbing another Chula Vista bank in 2008, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.
“Unfortunately this defendant failed to take advantage of his second chance and committed an additional violent crime,” said U.S. Attorney Robert Brewer in a statement
“As this case demonstrates, individuals who re-offend will be investigated, arrested and convicted and usually the sentence will be longer,” said Brewer. “Hopefully this time the defendant learned a lesson.”
Haro approached a teller window and told the teller he had a gun. He presented a demand note, which read: “I have a GUN! Give me all money. NO INK packages.”
The teller and her co-workers complied with the robber and gave him $1,000. Haro fled the bank on a scooter.
Brehm said he couldn’t disclose how Haro was arrested, but did say he was apprehended on Nov. 4, 2019..
Acting FBI special agent in charge Omer Meisel said “the safety of the San Diego community is a priority” for the FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force. A spokesperson for Chula Vista Police recognized “the collaboration and cooperation” with the FBI and its task force for leading to his identification and arrest.
