Pre-holiday tradition returns to Sweetwater

The Sweetwater Woman’s Club is back with its long-standing fundraising event.
The 51st annual Bonita Holiday takes place this weekend on Friday, Oct. 26 and Saturday, Oct.27 at the Sweetwater Woman’s Clubhouse, 3855 Sweetwater Road in Bonita.

A craft show will be held on Friday from 9.a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Three local homes will be open Saturday on from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the home tour.
Tickets to tour the three homes cost $15, there is no admission fee to attend the craft fair.
Jan Lawry, the club’s past president, said all money raised from the event goes right back into the community to benefit local charities, organizations and provide scholarships to one student at every Sweetwater Union High School District school.

“This is our way of making a difference in the community,” she said.

Every year, the club features three homes -with permission of the owner- for a home tour. Two homes are located in Bonita and one home is in Chula Vista for this year’s tour.

“People lend us their homes for the day and people go through them on a tour,” said Lawry. “They are just beautiful homes and some are filled with great art work.”
Lawry, who’s been in the club since 2010, said every year the Woman’s Club looks for three homes to display for its Bonita Holiday event.

In addition to selling crafts, the women’s club sells cheese balls, homemade baked goods, local produce, hand crafted Halloween and Christmas items, jewelry, jam, chocolate, home decor, jewelry, garden and garden plants. There will also be a raffle.

“The whole Sweetwater Women’s Club has nothing but tables lined in the outside patio, selling hand-crafted crafts and various other things,” Lawrey said.
