Police arrest woman for taking district money

A former Sweetwater Union High School District employee was arrested Tuesday morning in connection with a case of embezzlement at the Sweetwater Union High School District.

Danya Margarita Williams, 42, is alleged to have embezzled more than $50,000 in money orders, which were supposed to be for fingerprint background check fees, between June, 2016 to November, 2017, according to a Chula Vista Police Department press release.
Williams was responsible for handling the fees, which prospective employees had to pay as part of the hiring process.

The fees were between $52 and $75 per applicant, but police allege that money was never processed and, instead, found itself into Williams’ personal bank account.
Chula Vista police detectives worked with school officials to conduct an investigation, which ultimately led to Williams arrest, according to the release.
