Johnny Fuentes is still the president of Park View Little League and is having a great time overseeing what he calls the “Great Little League.”

“The families that partake in this league are awesome and make coming out to our park to watch baseball enjoyable,” Fuentes said.

Fuentes is also serving as manager for the second straight season of the league’s Junior Division (14U) all-star team.

Park View captured this year’s California District 42 championship title with an 11-1 victory against Luckie Waller last Saturday at Park View Little League.

Fuentes called the team’s district championship “very exciting.”

“We do have a great group of boys who give it their all each and every game,” Fuentes said.

Park View won all three of its tournament games by run-rule margins.

Park View defeated Luckie Waller, 19-3, to open the three-team tournament on June 27, and followed that with a 15-0 win over Sweetwater Valley on June 28.

Park View advances to the California Section 7 tournament hosted by Alpine American Little League July 7-11. Park View will join champions from District 41, District 22 and District 66 in the four-team double-elimination tournament.

In opening-round games on Saturday, July 7, Park View will engage District 41 champion Rancho San Diego at 9 a.m. while District 66 champion Lemon Grove will meet the District 22 champion at 1 p.m.

The winners of Saturday’s games advance to the winners bracket final on Sunday, July 8, at 9 a.m. while the losers of Saturday’s games on Saturday drop to the challenger bracket for an elimination game on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The challenger bracket final is scheduled for Monday, July 9, at 5 p.m., followed by the championship game on Tuesday, July 10, also at 5 p.m.

If necessary, a double-elimination game to determine this year’s section champion will take place on Wednesday, July 11, at 5 p.m.

The California Section 7 champion advances to the 10-team Southern California Division III double-elimination tournament, set to be hosted by California District 13 Thousand Oaks Little League, starting July 14.

Park View advances to the district championship game Saturday, July 7, at 4 p.m. at Sweetwater Valley Little League against an opponent to be determined in Friday’s challenger bracket final.

“Hopefully Park View can electrify the city of Chula Vista with some more exciting baseball here in the following months,” Fuentes said.

Other teams are hoping to provide a spark of electricity in their playoff divisions.

In 10U all-star play, Eastlake and Chula Vista American won both of their opening two games to advance to Thursday’s winners bracket final.

Eastlake defeated Park View and Sweetwater Valley by scores of 10-4 and 4-1, respectively, while Chula Vista American topped Imperial Beach and Luckie Waller by scores of 12-4 and 21-1, respectively.
