NEW CRISIS STABILIZATION UNIT AT PARADISE VALLEY HOSPITAL’S BAYVIEW BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CAMPUS

Paradise Valley Hospital has entered into a partnership with the County of San Diego to open a new Crisis Stabilization Unit on the hospital’s Bayview campus. The CSU is a specialized department that will provide hospital-based emergency behavioral health services to residents of San Diego County 18 years old and and older. This is the first and only unit of its kind in the South Bay, and the second CSU in San Diego County.

“The Crisis Stabilization Unit is essentially a 24-hour mental health urgent care clinic,” says Kerstin Cornell, the CSU’s program manager. “Across the board, we’re seeing a greater need for behavioral health services. It’s not unusual for our emergency services to be stretched thin from caring for behavioral health patients. Our CSU will help relieve that stress-point by providing for those who need immediate behavioral health care, but who are not acute enough to require full inpatient hospitalization.”

“Our therapists are focused on understanding our patients’ trauma,” Cornell explains. “We offer them a supportive atmosphere and make their stay with us as ‘home-like’ as possible, to calm them and help them cope. We have individual and group interventions and help them find other resources for help in the community. We also have licensed and registered staff who can help our patients with medication intervention.”

Neerav Jadeja, CEO of Paradise Valley Hospital, is excited to enter this partnership with San Diego County. “This is a win for the behavioral health community,” says Jadeja. “The County acknowledges the need for the CSU, and Paradise Valley Hospital has the ability and expertise to provide for that need. Our partnership is a natural fit, and it will allow us to fulfill our mission to provide much needed care for our community.”

The Crisis Stabilization Unit is located at 330 Moss Street in Chula Vista, and they can be reached by calling (619) 585-4221. Program Manager Kerstin Cornell can be reached at (619) 585-4228, or KCornell1@PrimeHealthcare.com. Visit us at ParadiseValleyHospital.com/csu.
