A Chula Vista man and his friend face a March 4 preliminary hearing on a murder charge involving a fatal shooting of an El Cajon man who was targeted for robbery of his marijuana.

Homero Viscarra Palomino, 18, of Chula Vista, and Paul Julian Sosa III, 18, of San Diego, are charged in the Sept. 18, 2014, shooting death of John Milton Francis, 38. Francis was found by El Cajon Police 1:20 p.m. after they received a 911 call. Francis was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Francis had marijuana in his possession and the slaying occurred during a robbery of the drug from him. Both men are also charged with robbery.

Bail has been set at $2 million. Palomino remains in the George Bailey Detention Facility and Sosa is housed in the South Bay Detention Facility.
