Man says he did not hit and run, burgle or elude police

A Chula Vista man was ordered to stand trial Nov. 5 for residential burglary and evading police after allegedly fleeing with stolen items.

Four witnesses testified in the preliminary hearing of Brandon Albert Loeb, 34, who was also ordered to stand trial for hit and run and possession of methamphetamine in a May 9 incident.

Loeb pleaded not guilty to all charges before El Cajon Superior Court Judge Herbert Exarhos on Sept. 6. The prosecutor asked to increase bail for Loeb, but the judge declined, and Loeb remains free on $30,000 bond.

Loeb knew the victim in the burglary, said District Attorney spokeswoman Tanya Sierra, on Sept. 25. Court records show that Loeb was ordered to stay 100 yards away from the woman.

Sierra said stolen items were found in the car Loeb was driving. A witness called La Mesa Police at 12:55 p.m., saying someone had broken into an apartment in the 5700 block of Cowles Mountain Boulevard. The witness said a man left with a bag of items in a black car.

An officer spotted a black Honda Fit sedan as it got onto Interstate 8 from Lake Murray Boulevard and followed it down to Chula Vista. The sheriff’s ASTREA helicopter assisted. An officer attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect failed to yield.

The driver collided with two other vehicles before continuing eastbound on E Street.

The driver pulled into the parking lot of Motel 6 in the 700 block of E Street and got out of the car. He felt on foot and officers arrested Loeb in the area.
The hit and run involves property damages to the other cars. Loeb told police he knew someone in the Motel 6 room. It was searched, but no stolen property was found there.
