Man pleads guilty to assault with gun

A National City man accused of wounding his ex-girlfriend and pointing a gun at a man pleaded guilty Feb. 26 to two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
Raymond Milam Magana, 37, is expected to receive a stipulated 15-year prison term, said Deputy District Attorney Jaimie Thomas.

Chula Vista Superior Court Judge Dwayne Moring set sentencing for May 30. Magana remains in the central jail without bail.

Two counts of attempted murder and a previous assault involving the ex-girlfriend were dismissed after he pleaded guilty to two assault charges.

The ex-girlfriend was shot in the neck on April 2, 2018 and she was hospitalized for three weeks. The ex-girlfriend showed up at Magana’s residence to pick up her belongings along with another man who had previously dated her.

There was a 3-hour standoff with SWAT officers in the 2800 block of Prospect Street. The area is an unincorporated part of National City, so sheriff’s deputies and National City Police officers responded.
