Looking, moving ahead in the new year

These are ideas and maxims for progress in 2021.

1) The world will become a better place when people trust each other more than they do now.

2) There is only one truth. Anyone who invents their own truth is a menace to other people, and to society.

3) Believe in authority figures, experts and scientists. Working towards an improving world in the future is possible only when most citizens have faith in their leaders.

4) Violence is the first resort of the incompetent. Smart people find better ways to solve problems.

5) All resources are finite in supply. One crises after another occurs in the 21st century as we approach limits as time goes by.

6) Civilization is uncivilized in many ways, and in many places.

7) Utilitarians are correct in believing in the greatest good for the greatest number. All human beings matter. Many people need to learn hubris which is humility. Some seem incapable of it.

8) Peace has no chance with the major powers always engaged in an arms race. The status quo must go swiftly.

9) Factions caused by prejudice involving race, religion, skin color, or ethnic groups must diminish.

10) What do people take from the Earth? Everything they can. What do they give back in return? Garbage, sewage, concrete, carbon dioxide and plastic. More intelligent use of food and fuel are essential to have.

Positive changes have to begin on January 20, 2021. Joe Biden is a good, honest man. Daunting challenges face him in many areas. Neither the press nor political opponents should pounce on him at the beginning. We owe it to future generations to do all that is possible to make the future safe and sound.
