The Mesa League will hold its prelim meet on Tuesday, April 23, followed by the league finals on Thursday, April 25. The South Bay League will hold timed finals on Friday, April 26.

Both Mesa League meets are scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. at Southwestern College.

Local high school swimmers will be out to clock fast times in a bid to qualify for the upcoming San Diego Section prelim meet (May 2) and championship meet (May 4) at Del Norte High School.

In a Mesa League double dual meet held April 11 at SWC, Otay Ranch hosted Eastlake while Bonita Vista hosted Hilltop.

Eastlake remained undefeated in league dual meets after sweeping Otay Ranch by scores of 142-16 (boys) and 120-36 (girls).

Hilltop’s girls team prevailed by a score of 117-68 while Bonita Vista’s boys team won 97-80.

Eastlake captured first-place finishes in all 12 girls events and 10 of the 12 boys events.

Freshman sensation Emily Lundgren doubled in winning the girls 200 individual medley (2:14.91) and 100 breaststroke (1:09.04) while Mirsha Lora doubled in winning the 200 freestyle (2:03.22) and 500 freestyle (5:30.20).

Pia Davila doubled in winning the 100 butterfly (1:04.24) and 100 backstroke (1:06.65) while other individual event winners included Cecilia Hagewood in the 50 freestyle (25.08) and Alex Morgan in the 100 freestyle (59.63).

The Titans had four other swimmers each win an individual event: Emilio Camarillo in the 200 IM (2:15.47), Christian Parra in the 100 butterfly (1:09.34), Colby Hughes in the 500 freestyle (5:07.52) and Aaron Ruelas in the 100 backstroke (1:06.03).

EHS head coach Steve Wiggs said fast time were not the focus of the meet against the Mustangs.

“We approached it not needing a lot of good times in the races but, with the league finals coming up, we wanted to work on some technique in the races such as starts, turns and stroke rate,” he said.

Samuel Gomez, the defending Mesa League 100 freestyle champion, was the standout for Otay Ranch in the boys meet after capturing first-place finishes in the 200 freestyle (1:49.66) and 100 freestyle (49.41).

Top showings for the Otay Ranch girls team included a second-place finish in the freestyle relay, a second-place individual finish by Itzel Villa-Jimenez in the 100 butterfly and a second-place finish by Alejandra Lopez in the 200 IM.

Bonita Vista won 11 boys events while Hilltop won 10 girls events.
