The word “impressive” might be too soft a word to describe the start to the 2010-11 high school boys soccer season for the Hilltop Lancers, who sport a 12-2 record after reaching the finals of two holiday tournaments.

The Lancers dropped a narrow 1-0 decision to Poway to finish runner-up in the Coronado Islanders Cup before sweeping through the annual Grossmont holiday tournament, defeating Ramona, 1-0, in Monday’s final.

Joshua Diaz scored a second-half goal in Monday’s game, assisted by Enrique Maldonado, while Adrian Zendejas made two saves to record the shutout victory.

Both of Hilltop’s losses this season have been to Poway.
