There are seven football teams in the San Diego Section that remain undefeated through the opening seven weeks of play. One of them is located in South County: the Kuyper Prep Admirals.
The Admirals improved to 5-0 on the season following last Saturday’s 66-0 victory over the Lutheran Knights in a Sunset League game played at Hilltop High School.
Kuyper Prep, which is located in National City, is listed with a 43-student enrollment. The Admirals’ head coach is Jerry Webb — a name synonymous with success at the small enrollment level, most notably during his legendary reign at Midway Baptist.
Kuyper Prep led 28-0 after the first quarter and 58-0 at halftime. Steven Hannibal led the Admirals with four touchdowns while Caleb Northcutt and Jonathan Kiefner each scored twice and Zack Kiefner scored one touchdown.
Quarterback Gary Marshall completed three of nine passing attempts for 66 yards and one touchdown. As a team, the Admirals accumulated 152 rushing yards. Hannibal had two carries for 46 yards — both touchdowns — while David Lozoya had four carries for 41 yards.
Hannibal also caught one pass for 34 yards and had one interception and one fumble recovery. Lozoya had two picks in the game while Northcutt and Fernando Castaneda, who led the team with 12 tackles, also recovered fumbles.
Hannibal rushed for 237 yards and scored three touchdowns in a 64-34 league victory against Classical Academy on Sept. 30 while Marshall threw a pair of scoring passes and Northcutt rushed for three scores in a 64-0 league win against Vista Calvary Christian Academy on Sept. 23.
Hannibal rushed for 138 yards and scored three touchdowns while Markus Fulford scored twice in a 40-20 league victory against Ocean View Christian Academy on Sept. 10.
The Admirals kicked off their season with a 74-16 non-league victory against Calvary Christian Academy on Sept. 2 as Fulford scored four rushing touchdowns and Northcutt and Hannibal each scored twice.
Ocean View remained in the chase with last Friday’s 32-22 win at Warner Springs to improve to 3-1 in league play, 5-1 overall.
The Patriots defeated Lutheran, 56-8, in a Sunset League game Sept. 29 at Hilltop as Danny Smith (three carries, 74 yards) scored three touchdowns and Josh Smith (18 carries, 104 yards) and Raul Rodriguez (10 carries, 90 yards) each scored twice.
