Jogger’s husband goes to prison

The husband of a jogger who beat her and convinced her to tell Chula Vista Police the attack occurred by a stranger in a park has pleaded guilty to committing domestic violence.

Vicky Nikhil Pathak, 24, of Chula Vista, has agreed to accept a 14-year prison term, said Deputy District Attorney Enrique Camarena.

Sentencing was set for Jan. 3 by Chula Vista Superior Court Judge Esteban Hernandez.

His 23-year-old wife told police her injuries occurred while jogging at McCandliss Park, near J Street and Interstate 805 on March 3.

After she was hospitalized, doctors discovered some injuries appeared to have been inflicted earlier and was in the process of healing. The wife eventually told police her husband had beaten her, but they both agreed to say it was the result of a stranger in the park so she could obtain medical treatment.

Pathak remains in the George Bailey Detention facility.
