More than 70 employers are expected to bring more than 500 job opportunities to National City Sept. 24, giving local job seekers a chance to meet with company representatives and learn about available positions at the National City Chamber Fall Job Fair.
The free event, hosted by the National City Chamber of Commerce and Southwestern College, will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at Southwestern College’s Higher Education Center at National City, 880 National City Blvd. The event will be held outdoors.
The Chamber is hosting the event in partnership with Southwestern College National City Campus. There is no admission charge for job seekers.
More than 70 employers are expected to participate, offering more than 500 job opportunities, according to event information from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
The timing comes as employers across California continue to seek workers in several large occupational categories. State workforce data based on employer job postings shows particularly strong demand for registered nurses and home health and personal care aides.
Among middle-skill occupations, teaching assistants and heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers were among the occupations generating the most online job advertisements in August 2025, with each recording more than 2,700 postings statewide.
The data comes from the California Workforce Development Board’s 2025-26 Unified Strategic Workforce Development Plan, which uses Lightcast online job-advertising data along with state labor-market projections to track employer demand.
The range of employers at the National City fair gives job seekers a chance to look beyond a single type of position. Attendees can talk with representatives from different companies, ask questions about available openings and determine which positions may be a good fit for their experience and skills.
The Chamber is encouraging job seekers to come prepared. Attendees are advised to bring multiple copies of their résumés, dress professionally and maintain a positive attitude during the event. The Chamber also recommends researching participating companies and their job openings before arriving.
For people who are still deciding what direction to take professionally, the event also provides a chance to see what kinds of positions are available in the local job market. Those considering additional education or training can also learn more about Southwestern College programs while visiting the campus.
The Higher Education Center at National City offers general education courses and career-focused programs in fields including dental hygiene, medical laboratory technology, medical office professions and optical technology.
The center is located near Interstate 5 and the 8th Street trolley station. Free parking is available through the Roosevelt Avenue entrance.
Job seekers attending the fair should bring several résumés so they can provide copies to employers they meet. Researching companies and openings beforehand can also help attendees arrive with specific questions and make better use of their time at the event.
