A former sex offender who allegedly committed a two-day crime spree in the South Bay in 2010 has been ordered to stand trial on charges of kidnapping, robbery, and committing a lewd act on a dependent adult.
Three victims and two others testified June 29 in the preliminary hearing of Leonard Earl Scroggins, 33, who cut off his GPS monitoring device that he was wearing while he was on parole in Napa County.
Scroggins drove to Chula Vista and National City on May 18, 2010, but was arrested several days later by National City Police.
With the current charges and his criminal record, he could face 150 years in prison if convicted.
Chula Vista Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sontag ordered him to stand trial for the attempted kidnapping of a 14-yearold girl, three counts of robbery and attempted robbery, and committing a lewd act on a dependent adult.
Scroggins is a registered sex offender who has been in and out of prison for most of his life. He was released on parole on March 6, and allegedly committed the offenses two months later. Scroggins has pleaded not guilty and remains in the George Bailey Detention Facility on $2 million bail.
