Field nearly set in historic National City vote

The city of National City has two council seats and the mayoral seat up for a vote in the general November 2022 election.

This year is the first time residents will be voting for district representatives instead of participating in an election at large.

Districts 1 and 3 are up for a vote this year while Districts 2 and 4 will go on the 2024 ballot.Luz Molina is running unopposed to represent District 1, which is bordered by Highland Avenue and spans the entire western side of the city. Molina who is currently serving is currently serving as City Clerk for the municipality.

Ditas Yamane and Marissa Acierto are running against each other in District 3, which includes Paradise Village and the northeastern side of the city.

Yamane unsuccessfully ran for city treasurer in 2016 and city council in 2020.

Acierto made an unsuccessful run for San Diego City Council in the primary election of 2002 and in a special 2004 election.

Alejandra Sotelo-Solis is running as the incumbent mayor against former mayor Ron Morrison and current city council member Jose Rodriguez.

Sotelo-Solis was elected to city council in 2008 and was elected for a two-year term as mayor in 2018.

Morrison served as mayor from 2006 to 2018, followed by his current stint on city council.

Rodriguez was elected to city council in 2020 with a term set to expire in 2024.

Elections will be held on Nov. 8.
