This free, family-friendly celebration invites the community to honor departed loved ones while embracing life and coming together. A central highlight of the event is the annual Ofrenda (Altar) Contest, featuring three distinct categories: Best Ofrenda Created by School/Students, Best Ofrenda Created by community, and Best Overall Ofrenda.

Attendees can also participate in the Community Ofrenda at Davidson by bringing a copy of a photo to pin to the altar. Attire is also a big part of the celebration, with the Catrín/Catrina Contest giving guests the chance to show off their creativity! Contest categories include Best Youth (12 and under), Best Catrín (Male), Best Catrina (Female), and Best Couple, with top entries taking home cash and prizes valued between $100 and $500.As you wander down streets decorated with marigolds and papel picado, enjoy the inviting scents of fresh tamales and pan de muerto.

Guests can explore the Mercado by Las Jefas Market, featuring over 50 regional culinary and retail creators, and enjoy live music and dance across four stages, a car show, children’s craft stations, themed photo opportunities, and delicious food and treats!Whether you are assembling your altar at home or beginning your holiday festivities early, Downtown Chula Vista provides everything necessary to prepare.
