Edible cannabis a sweet alternative to smoking

Chula Vista is in the midst of processing cannabis applications for future cannabis shops, delivery services and cultivation. Once processed and set up, the legal storefront operations will most likely carry the edible version of cannabis.

An edible is any cannabis infused product that can be eaten or drank that contains cannabis or marijuana. A cannabis edible is a food product that contains cannabinoids, especially tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) according to cannabis edible – Wikipedia.
According to Chris Pearce, marketing director at San Diego Recreational Cannabis or SDRC

in Mission Valley, the top five edibles are:
1) Flav Gummies – rings and belts with sour apple being one of the favorites
2) PLUS Gummies
3) Kaneh Co Baked Goods such as paleo bites – gluten-free options, cookies, brownies
4) The Fizz Gummies
5) Satori – chocolate covered fruits and almonds

San Diego Recreational Cannabis is looking to expand into the Chula Vista market and has an application in with the city. They are in the second phase of screening. The location they chose is also in the background check phase.

Pearce had tips on using and storing edibles.

“Start small, a single serving is 10 milligrams,” said Pearce. “I always recommend storing them in a cool, dry place away from children and pets.”

According to Pearce their clients range from age 21 and up to seniors in wheelchairs.

Additionally, they also carry CBD drops for dogs.

“We carry a brand, My Best Bud, and the vets are pretty much onboard,” said Pearce. “The drops run from $45 to $80. It helps with pet anxieties.”

Besides edibles another relatively new product named Lagunitas, a sparkling water with hop flavor, is also now in their inventory.

“Because of the acceptance now, more people are starting to venture out a little from the conventional flower to different varieties of cannabis,” said Omar Arredondo of Escondido. Arredondo has worked in businesses that service the legal cannabis shops.

“Smoking can keep the smell on your clothes,” said Arredondo. “But with edibles there is no smell, no body odor and no visual signs.”

Adrian Navarro of Las Vegas uses edibles for medicinal purposes.

“I use edibles to consume the CBD,” said Navarro. “Because a lot of flowers don’t have any CBD, I’ll take a gummy edible that has a lot of CBD to get the medicinal effects for pain relief.”

According to Evergreenorganix, the four steps to take if you eat too many cannabis edibles are: 1. CBD oil to counteract the psychoactive effects of THC, 2. controlled breathing, 3. keep hydrated, and 4. take a shower. Leafly recommends black peppercorns.
