Eastlake sweeps titles in 10U, 11U, 12U All-Star divisions

Could another California District 42 Little League 12U All-Star team be on the road to Williamsport?

Certainly, the Eastlake Little League All-Stars put on an offensive display worthy of playing in Lamade Stadium after crushing the Park View All-Star team by a score of 32-1 in Sunday’s championship game at the Sweetwater Valley Little League complex.

Eastlake scored its 32 runs in a shortened four-inning game.

The championship game produced fireworks worthy of the annual Fourth of July holiday as Eastlake batters slammed 11 home runs in the contest.

The newly crowned district champions displayed a penchant for scoring runs in bunches from the onset of this year’s tournament. Eastlake racked up 61 runs in three games while allowing six. That’s an average margin of victory of 18 runs.

Oh, doctor!

Eastlake opened the tournament June 28 by battering Park View by a score of 15-2, then topped Sweetwater Valley, 14-3, in a winners bracket semifinal game on June 30.

That’s only the tip of the iceberg for the Eastlake Little League program. The league also secured district championships in the 10U and 11U All-Star divisions.

All three Eastlake district champions now advance to compete in California Section 7 tournaments. The younger two age divisions culminate with state championships; the 12U All-Star division ends in the iconic Little League World Series.

Eastlake Little League President Mark Robertson is obviously proud of this year’s three district champions.

“Anytime you get to represent your district it is an honor,” Robertson said. “Our goal always is to allow our community an opportunity to thrive in the baseball arena by learning the fundamentals of the sport and the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork. We are always proud when we can accomplish this goal and have our kids reach beyond our home fields.

“All three teams hopefully have a lot of baseball ahead of them. Without the parents’ and managers’ support we would never be able to succeed in this fashion. It is an honor to be part of this league and to be the president of Eastlake Little League.”

Bombs away
Nico Libed hit two home runs (both in the first inning) and collected seven RBI in Sunday’s 12U All-Star Division championship game. Tre Edwards hit three home runs while Ryan Espinosa hit two home runs.

Haiden Sanchez hit a grand slam while Jeremiah Cook, Esteban Garcia and Chase Taylor hit home runs as well.
Mikey Rocha pitched three scoreless innings, striking out five batters while not allowing a base on balls.

While the team pummeled opponents during its championship run, Eastlake coach Mike Lane said the team’s pitching staff was equally “amazing.”

Hunter Stencil, Taylor and Rocha combined for 12 innings on the mound. They allowed five runs while striking out 18 and allowed just one base on balls.

Offensively, Libed slammed three home runs with 12 RBI in the tournament while Isaiah Lane hit 1.000 in the tournament and cracked two home runs.

Lead-off batter Daniel Mora scored eight runs. Edwards hit three home runs. Cook and Espinoza each hit two home runs.
In the 10U All-Star Division, Eastlake blanked Sweetwater Valley, 13-0, while Eastlake doubled up Park View by a score of 14-7 to win the 11U All-Star Division.
