Discovery offers early NYE celebration

The Living Coast Discovery Center will once again offer their recycled dog toy craft construction at their New Year’s Eve Party, Dec. 31, slated for 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.

“Last year this activity was a huge hit, especially among adults,” said Elizabeth Argyle, director of education and guest experience.

“Using recycled t-shirts and scraps, party guests will be able to make their dog or cat a fun toy. This is a great way for people to help us recycle and reduce our waste.”

“This will be our 5th year celebrating the ball drop on San Diego Bay,” she said. “Last year we had over 300 hundred people attend. This year we are expecting 450 people.”
New activities include a dance party room and outdoor trivia game.

“This is a great event for the whole family,” she said. “We’ll have a night hike and our animal ambassadors will greet guests. We’ll also have drinks for kids and adults and a food truck. To celebrate, we will be streaming live on a big screen the New York ball drop, and this year we will have our own ball drop.”

“There aren’t many family-friendly events happening in San Diego that are reasonably priced,” said Ben Vallejos, executive director.” We are happy to provide an option for our community.”

General admission is $30, which includes 2-drink tickets (champagne, beer or wine for adults with a proper ID), DJ music and dancing, a hot chocolate bar and cookie decorating, a photo booth, and more.

The event has sold out three years in a row according to staff.

Tickets are available on Eventbrite. The Living Coast Discovery Center is located at 1000 Gunpowder Point Drive in Chula Vista.
