Denial is a state in Chula Vista

The city council in the city of Chula Vista is in denial of the reality of the city’s financial situation, which they largely caused by consistently changing the zoning of commercial and industrial land to residential to please developers out to make a quick buck, who coincidentally contributed to their campaigns. This has gone on for a number of years causing the city to become a bedroom community that now has trouble paying its bills They maintain their extra pay and high salaries while library, recreation, development services, public works people get laid off to balance budgets. Last year 479 employees made less than $39,000 and 660 made over $100,000 (including the mayor, most fire and police, and executives).

On July 2 at 6 p.m. the Southwest Chula Vista Civic Association will have a meeting at the South library at 389 Orange Ave in room B to discuss how we can put pressure on the council to set an example by lowering their salaries and pledging to stop these foolish zone changes and negotiate changes in public safety compensation which is 50 percent of the entire budget.
